Personal Genius Hour 2020 -Exploring the Possibilities

As I prepare for the birth of my third child, with a 3- year-old and a 2-year-old at home, there are so many things that I must do and want to do. I could not be any more excited to be required to get something accomplished with my "free" time. Somethings I need to keep in mind is that I'm pregnant so physically I will not be able to do everything I would like to do.

So where should I start? Here are a few of my favorite things...

1. Although I love working out, and it's one of my favorite stress relievers, I don't think I can set any personal goals for working out right now as my body is working against me and I cannot run or work out the way that I'm used to. I think I will look into a prenatal program that would fit my lifestyle and dedicate time to completing the workouts.

2. I'm a terrible cook and that's something I would like to get better at, but I really don't enjoy it ... at all. However, both of my boys are extremely picky eaters so I would like to dedicate some time to organizing some family-friendly meals.

3. One thing that I love to do, that I can do right now, is a household project of cleaning/organizing/preparing for our newest family member. In a sense, Marie Kondo my life!

4. I haven't traveled in a really long time. Okay, maybe just a year, but that is FAR too long in my world. My family would like to go on a spring break trip this year. I could dedicate my time to planning and budgeting for this trip.

I got to a point where I couldn't think of much more so I went to my family for help. My family recommended: be on time (I'm always late), teaching my 2-year-old how to keep his shoes on in the car and to organize my life.

I explained to them that to "be on time" and teaching a two- year- old to keep his shoes on weren't probably the best suggestions. I think I will need to explore each of these topics a bit more closely. Stay tuned.

  1. Wait until that third kid comes around, big change from 2 to 3 kids. I noticed that right away.

*Sigh* Twitter

I remember the moment Kim Darche said: "in this class, you will use Twitter." I felt the heart palpitations begin, sweaty palms, blood pressure rising... and I don't understand why I felt that way. I've given Twitter two past attempts and I really just couldn't get it. I remember when Twitter became a thing right after I got out of college. It was just a stream of people's thoughts, and I recall thinking it was just one more social media app that I had to check, like a chore. Five years later, I gave it another try as an older, more professional adult. I still just couldn't get into it. During this course, I decided I wanted to put all reservations aside and give Twitter one last attempt; I must admit, I don't entirely hate it. I still feel like it is just one more social media app to check, but I do see it's value. I still struggle with feeling like I'm getting only a preview and people's posts that leave me wanting more. This course ...

Genius Hour Post #3: What's your sentence?

Well, here's an update... I've changed my project. I began to prepare for my Genius Hour Project, Prenatal Diet and Excercise. I began by cleaning out my kitchen of all the food that was expired or high in sugar. I then went up to my room to organize all of my maternity clothes, work out clothes and exercise equipment. I was finding so much satisfaction in organizing my things and getting rid of things I no longer needed or wanted (or sparked joy if you will..) that I found my passion for these next several weeks will be simplifying and organizing my life.  Ever since becoming a mom, I have experienced some real anxiety. I constantly feel out of control. Growing up, I always loved to have my way, on my own time. Now I have these little humans in my life which I cannot control... and it drives me bananas! I also have a husband who works (a very dangerous job) for long, crazy hours. None of these things I can control. But what I can control, is putting my life in order; reduci...
