Blog Post 7- We are Learners

Last week I struggled with staying motivated to continue my project through the flu taking over my house and a leaky ceiling. This week, I was out of the classroom two days, my youngest also having the flu, as well as my grandmother-in-law staying with us from out of town for a full week. I was determined to stay motivated after last week. I decided that in this process, I've gotten rid of a lot of things and really decluttered. What I wanted to make my major project was the office/playroom. This room is really more of a multi-purpose room that I just never can seem to get my mind wrapped around what exactly I want it to be. Is it a mud room? Is it an office? Is it a play room? Unfortunately it was all of those things. The part that makes me feel the most out of control is the desk with all of the papers on it. As I have been reading everything Clutterbug has to offer, I've learned that my "clutterbug" identity is a ladybug. Ladybugs like things neat and put away,...

Genius Hour Post #6- Expect the Mutiny

This week mutiny held no mercy on the Cucinella household. It all began on Saturday morning when we had workers in to demo our son's new bedroom. This room has not been touched since probably the early 1970s and we have had no reason to update it yet, so now is the time! We are currently in phase 2 of the room. There was dust everywhere! Two days later, our house was back in order after a lot of dust removal and my son started showing signs of sickness. After finding that 8 out of 20 students in his preschool class were sick with Influenza B, I brought him to the dr to conclude that he was lucky patient #9. After 3 sleepless nights with my son, I was hopeful that we were over the hump, I got him to bed and I was hopeful I could get in a good hour of working on my Genius Hour project. My husband was showering and getting ready for work when I realized I heard a noise from the kitchen. We were extremely lucky to have a plumber come the very next day.  I had my...

Genius Hour Post #4: Routines

This week I continued to de-clutter a room (or in some cases just a drawer) a day. Right now there are two locations of my home that I need to focus on how I will continue to keep clean and how to organize it. This week I chose to focus on the office/playroom/mudroom. ... It's a lot, I know. Since this room is right off of the garage door, it's where we enter and shed our jackets, shoes, hats, and gloves. It also has our desk with our printer and all of our important documents. For some reason organizing documents has always been extremely difficult. I don't know what it is, I can organize a drawer, but documents seem like such a daunting task. Organizing our desk will need to be one week itself! It also is the boys' main play area. There's a train table, TV, couch, and toy bin in there. This week I focused on clutter removal before I could begin to organize. Here are my before & after photos. Don't judge... it's rough and still a work in progress. I...

Genius Hour Post #3: What's your sentence?

Well, here's an update... I've changed my project. I began to prepare for my Genius Hour Project, Prenatal Diet and Excercise. I began by cleaning out my kitchen of all the food that was expired or high in sugar. I then went up to my room to organize all of my maternity clothes, work out clothes and exercise equipment. I was finding so much satisfaction in organizing my things and getting rid of things I no longer needed or wanted (or sparked joy if you will..) that I found my passion for these next several weeks will be simplifying and organizing my life.  Ever since becoming a mom, I have experienced some real anxiety. I constantly feel out of control. Growing up, I always loved to have my way, on my own time. Now I have these little humans in my life which I cannot control... and it drives me bananas! I also have a husband who works (a very dangerous job) for long, crazy hours. None of these things I can control. But what I can control, is putting my life in order; reduci...
